**Novo Nordisk (NVO)** has completed a **Phase 3** clinical trial comparing its experimental combination drug **CagriSema** with **tirzepatide** in people with **type 2 diabetes**, according to a registry update dated **4 September 2026**. The study's status on ClinicalTrials.gov moved to *COMPLETED*.

The trial, registered as **NCT06221969**, was designed to measure *how much CagriSema lowers blood sugar and body weight compared to tirzepatide* in patients already treated with **metformin, with or without an SGLT2 inhibitor**. Novo Nordisk A/S is listed as the sponsor.

CagriSema combines the amylin analogue cagrilintide with semaglutide, the molecule behind Novo's existing diabetes and obesity franchises. Tirzepatide is the active ingredient in Eli Lilly's competing products, making this one of the few **direct head-to-head comparisons** between the two companies' leading metabolic assets.

A completed status means enrolment and follow-up have finished. It does not on its own disclose results: the registry entry contains no efficacy or safety data, and no outcome figures were included in the update.

For investors, the relevance is timing. Completion of a head-to-head Phase 3 study puts Novo Nordisk in position to report data that would directly address how CagriSema stacks up against the market's benchmark incretin therapy in type 2 diabetes.
